Microplastics Everywhere

It’s the little things that surprise you.

Aquatic ecologists from the Great Lakes Network staff, St. Croix National Scenic Riverway, Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, and Water Resources Division teamed up with scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey, State University of New York at Fredonia, and Loyola University Chicago to identify and count microplastic particles in water, sediment, fish, and mussels collected from the Mississippi River and St. Croix/Namekagon Rivers. Guess how many samples contained microplastics…..ALL OF THEM!
